If you enjoy crime and mystery, then I'll bet you would enjoy Sue Grafton's series of detective novels that are based on the alphabet. Her first novel is A is for Alibi and she has written a book for every letter up to S...her current title is S is for Silence. The books are about a female Private Investigator in California. I think this would be an interesting place for you to start.

you can try reading the comedies of Shakespeare like the Merchant of Venice, Much Ado about Nothing, The Taming of the Shrew, or you can read the books of Harry Potter. These are easy and fun to read. if you really like mystery/crime then you can read Robert Ludlum like Matarese Circle and the Jason Bourne series.

I don't know your age, but here's some for teenagers:
just a few...
Westing Game (mystery)
Rebecca(mystery)
To Kill A Mockingbird(drama, crime)
White Fang(adventure, nature)
But to start off, read something short that you like, so you'll want to read more.
Some good books for mystery are Choose Your Own Adventure, which you can probably get on Ebay, because they are older books. They're short, and you can read them over and over, with a different ending.

First of all, congrats on being smart enough to recognize the value of reading!
I would recommend to you the work of Iain Banks, particularly "the Wasp Factory", for a suspenseful book that will blow your mind.
If that's a little much for you (not sure how old you are), feel free to fall back on John Grisham. He has some great courtroom novels.
I'm also a huge fan of the Harry Potter series - check them out. If you want a bigger list of some books to read, please feel free to message me. Cheers!

There are many great mystery and crime books. If you want you could start with some of the classics like sherlock holmes or some agatha christies.
But my fav. books--- not mystery or crime though--- are
The shadow of the wind
and
The alchemist
