You could put the rocks on a plywood board resting on a deflated air mattress and lift them by inflating the mattress.

I think I've got the right numbers here. A rock that is 3 ft X 3 ft X 3 ft weighs around 4,636 pounds, or about 2 1/4 tons. If the base area of the rock is 1 square yard or 36 inches X 36 inches, that equals 1,296 square inches. At that area an air pressure of about 3.6 pounds per square inch would lift the rock.

I haven't heard of anybody doing this, but if you had air nozzles that could blow air under the rock you could theoretically lift the rock and push it around.

While the air nozzles would be different, blowing air in from the sides of the rock to get under it, the principle is the same as an air hockey game where the puck rides on a cushion of air blowing through the holes in the bed of the game.

Perhaps you could scale the "rock" down in size and weight and use a proportional air pressure for this experiment.

I hope this helps.

I once hired a small tipper truck that had an airbag under the carrier part of the truck. You went and bought your sand or gravel from the yard, and when you got it back home, you fitted a hose from the truck's exhaust pipe to a fitting on the airbag. As you revved the engine, the airbag inflated and the carrier tipped up, tipping out your stuff.

You could use an air compressor to blow up an air bag under the rock.

Plug the air compressor into a jackhammer and cut the rocks into small movable pieces.
