No milk - it actually makes it worse (even if it does make it feel better). Prevention is best. Pay attention to the foods that cause it - mostly acidic foods like peppers, caffeine, tomato sauce, dairy, citrus, MSG. Too much salt can be a factor, so is smoking. Gum chewing is another thing that provides temporary relief but can actually make it worse 9you are activating unnecessary stomach acid). Do not eat heavy 2 to 3 hours before you lay down for the night. Raise you upper body. Lie on your left side for relief. Do not let yourself get too hungry - keep some unsalted crackers nearby.
Remember to drink lots of water.
Don't be afraid to take Tums - they are also a good source of calcium. Zantac is also safe but check with your doctor anyway ( I added this in case you change your mind about the pills).

Anything dairy. The thicker the better. A milkshake does wonders for heartburn even if you aren't pregnant. It helps neutralize the acid that causes the heartburn.

Depends on what you eat can make you have heartburn. Try laying of the soda ,especially coke , or tomatoes, spicy food. Sometimes sleeping a little elevated can help too. But it is common during pregnancy to have heartburn.
Good luck trying the remedies.

I know this sounds silly and gross, but with my first I had the worst heart burn. My sister-in-law shared with me her tip. I would get a cold, cold, cold can of Dr. Pepper, drink a few gulps really fast, and then belch. It stopped the heart burn instantly. I know you're not supposed to have too much caffeine, but it worked when it got really bad. Also, try sleeping propped up a bit. Good luck!!

Buy the drugstore brand of Tums. I have a six month old and I'm still taking them for the calcium. Take heart, it will go away soon!

if you only get it while you are laying down, try laying on your left side
if it occurs throughout the day, talk to your dr first of course, but maybe an antacid like tums would work? your doctor may also have some ideas of what to try
