I too am a senior early childhood major. I understand the stresses you are currently going through. I have my pre-student teaching this semester as well as my huge senior project, a full course load and I am tutoring two different children. Needless to say, I feel overwhelmed and I find it encouraging to talk to my classmates who are in the same situations as me. It helps to talk to one another and listen. I know I will make it through this year and you will too. Take it one day at a time and really think about the reasons you chose to go into teaching. I'm sure they will make you smile. Good luck! Just think that this time next year, most likely you will have your own classroom! :)

Well, I have taught l6 years, my Mom taught 32 years and my sister is a school psychologist married to a schoolteacher....so I think I am a little qualified.
Are you doing student teaching? If so, then calm down. It will all work out if you really want to teach. I didn't teach preschool only 3rd and 5th and 6th and 1st grade special ed. Yes, teaching is overwhelming. The key to success that I have found is organization and good planning. Always have a backup plan.
(in case the electricity goes off or there is a bomb threat when it is pouring rain outside! ha ha....) Actually, college will not prepare you for what you will face on a daily basis. You will have good days and bad days......like all the other working people in the world. Hey, at least you will get alot of holidays off and part of the summer.!!! And think about those Christmas gifts! ha ha
In reality, the planning will get better as the years go by. The discipline strategies will improve has time goes by and you are wiser and more experienced. However, different classes present different problems. But you will catch on quickly, I promise. Good luck....and remember....have fun with the kids when you can.....don't get into the rut of cutting down the students while you chat with other negative teachers in the teacher's lounge......try to hang out with positive teachers.... Stay upbeat as much as possible.....what pulled me thru some bad days were the hugs and kisses from the students or the cute pics they drew for me....I still have them and I kept a scrapbook.....love them....you only have them for a little while!!

You will makie it through this!!!!!!! I swore when I finished my student teaching that I would never set foot in a classroom. (My fellow student teachers replied "But you had all the good stories!") However, I I tried doing osme other things like writing for a newspaper, retail, and daycare, but felt that teaching was my calling in life. Now I can't imagine doing anything else! I have recently had to take a leave of absence to care for the medical needs of my 3 year old son, and I miss my students terribly. I have a full and wonderful life without school, but teaching is an important part of who I am as a person. Don't give up now. You are learning and that can be stressfull, but it is no reason to quit something in which have invested at least the last four years of your life. Get some rest, do your best, ask questions and enjoy your students. I'll be glad to talk with you via e-mail anytime you need a pep talk.

I am a teacher - albeit a teacher of big kids. Why do you want to be an early childhood teacher? One secret for being a happy teacher is that it is about them, and not about you. For example, when they do not behave the way you like, do you get angry or do you feel that all the more they need your tender care and guidance?

Relax. Being stressed just causes more stress. It will all turn out good in the end. You have gotten this far, congratulate yourself. Take a step back, take a little time off and meditate to organize your action plan. Once you have a plan, you can attack it and feel that you are progressing. Good Luck.

sigh, I'm a sophomore in college ( GO UCONN!!)
and I can say that as long as you are doing what you feel is right, go for it.
Remember that even with a degree in education, you can still pursue and do a variety of things. Heck, you can even go to business school if you soo desire, work in a laboratory, a court house or where ever.
I believe a book called " the power of focus for college students" will help you tremendously. It's by Luc D'Abadie and Andrew Hewitte. It will help you.
go luck and I'll think of you.
