I think the most logical answer is that the pipe should come out of the wall no less than 12 inches above the tallest person who uses the shower. Of course if there were all midgets there and a tall person was visiting would create a problem. Yet, being six feet myself, I don't care for showers coming out of the wall at 76 inches as this only gives you 6 inches to spare for a six foot person. Higher is always better than having to duck under the head of the shower. So........... there it is. Oh and don't forget to wash behind your ears he says as a humorous antidote.

If it is being inspected, call your local housing authority and find out what the building code is for your area. If you are doing this strictly on your own, put it where it is most comfortable for you and your family.

I have two in my house. I mounted one low enough to allow the hand-held unit enough freedom for dog bathing. The other one high enough for a tall man to stand under it.
