There are many things that make a person who they are today. Genes is only a smart portion of it. Genes show us how we look by nature but now a days many people both men and women dont like how they look and they change it alot. Our surrounding as u said is also another influence! the enviroment u are in can really chang ea way that we live. Like suppose u live in Antarctica u have a personality, hobbie and interests that go with that enviroment. Or if u live anywhere else there is differnent tastes and different things that make a person who they are today. But the question u asked is debatable. Again people are differnet those whose personality makes up their looks and background would say genes on a question like this. And someone who travels a lot or has different personalities in different places might think the enviroment. So there is a two side to your question. I hope wat i said helps u!
=)

Both but I tend to think, and the evidence is starting to show, that genes have a greater influence. Ask any mother with kids if they were different right from the start and they will say they are.

Try my parents who brain washed me about my spending habits,
and how to act around others, balance a check book, how to talk with proper english, ( dad was an English teacher), how not to call boys until I was a senior in hs but that slipped a few dozen times, So yes my surroundings not just my parents but sisters too! Had a major influence on the way I am now. I guess you can say that I am happy where I stand in life.

Both. There is no denying genetics have a huge part to play as any adopted person will tell you when they meet their biologicals. But the circumstances of your life will affect you more, every person, everything you happen upon is going to affect the way you engage in the world.
Maybe a persons genetic makeup will impact on how they deal with things. But if you were hit by a bus genetics are gonna mean nothing.

A lot more is in the genes than people like to think.

I cannot deny that my family genes run right through me but I would argue that I am the way I am from life experiences, the things I have chosen to learn from and from relationships I have forged so far. I believe nature/nurture is 50/50 until I am convinced otherwise.

20% genes...80% environment and the will to make my life better and not to just accept things for the way they were (by the way...it seems to be working out pretty well)

For me, it would have to be growing up in a VERY dysfunctional environment. Am I bitter about it all now? Well, I try not to concentrate on the past. All I can do is think about my future.

Definitely both. You're environment affects how you are as well as your genes.
Now which ones affects you more depends on the person and the environment.
