They don't really compare, but it's not always true either!
Take a cube with sides of length 1.
The surface area is 6 (for the six sides.) The volume is 1.

as the name states, SURFACE area only covers the surface of the object. Volume covers what is inside the object.

volume measures the amount of open space an object takes up, while surface area is a 2-dimensional measurement of the amount of the object that is visible.

It is not. first of all, they are measured in different units, eg. cm squared and cm cubed. second of all, an objects surface area can be numerically greater than its volume, eg. a cube 1 cm on each side has a surface area of 6cm squared and a volume of 1 cm cubed.

Surface area is measured in 2 dimensions while volume is measured in 3 dimensions...

It's not if the height (or any one dimension) is a decimal. For example the surface area of a piece of paper is numerically much higher than its volume. It's in a different unit though so they are not really comparable.

Surface area and volume are not the same thing.
[The person who voted thumbs down gets low grades in physics. Area and volume are simply not the same thing.]
[[Maybe 'cause you made a miscalculation.]]
[[[Try letting the third dimension be less than one. What happens?]]]
