To My Dear and Loving Husband
by Anne Bradstreet

If ever two were one, then surely we.
If ever man were loved by wife, then thee;
If ever wife was happy in a man,
Compare with me, ye women, if you can.
I prize thy love more than whole mines of gold
Or all the riches that the East doth hold.
My love is such that rivers cannot quench,
Nor ought but love from thee, give recompense.
Thy love is such I can no way repay,
The heavens reward thee manifold, I pray.
Then while we live, in love let's so persevere
That when we live no more, we may live ever.

Can you figure out the tone in this poem? A few sentences will do :]

ok from wut i see hear its a love letter written by a wife to a husband where she expresses her love to him
"if ever 2 were 1 then surely we....this refers to the husband and wife being 1 as a results of tehre love

"I prize thy love more than whole mines of gold
Or all the riches that the East doth hold." the wife expresses how much she loved him by comparing her love to him with gold ..... gold is nothing worth his love.......

"My love is such that rivers cannot quench," this figure of speech is personification ....... water being an abundantly found substance on earth in the forms of rivers, lakes ..etc ....... the wife expresses her love by makin known that her love for the husband is far more than the water on earth

"The heavens reward thee manifold, I pray.
Then while we live, in love let's so persevere
That when we live no more, we may live ever." the wife expresses how much the husban means to her as he is seen as a "blessing from above" ........her love is expressed to be everlasting n will lever die thus when this couple dies there love still goes on......

obviously....... this woman expresses a feel of everlasting love and emotion

Well, the tone is one of quiet confidence in the love that she shares w her husband; it isn't about what he buys her, how long they've been together etc, but talking about the eternal quality of their shared love.

The idea is that true love is actually more spiritual than material.

Tone? Sincere, loving, grateful to have found such a perfect match.
How's that?
