Ferries run all year long. In the winter, there will be fewer ferries running but probably the same or better availability than in the summer. Just an FYI - it's often easiest to arrange ferries and whatnot on the fly while in Greece. That way if you schedule changes by a day either way, then you have more options. Just call that day or the day before and ask for availability. Often you can bargain on price then too.

Check out Anek ferry lines. There are highspeed ferries that travel between Athens (Pireaus) and Crete (Chania or Heraklion) year around. They cost about 70euros/ way. The trip is 9 hours.

I suggest flying if possible. Flights from Athens to Crete cost about the same as taking the ferry and they are much faster and easier. Aegean is better than Olympic, but both are fine carriers.

Also, I believe that ferries run between other islands--Mykonos, Santorini and maybe some of the others year around. Check with a travel agent or Anek, Blue Star and other ferry lines. There may even be island hopping cruises for a discount price in the winter, but I do not know if they still run.

Ferries schedules change twice per year April and October therefore it is not possible to know the exact schedules prior to the end of September. None can inform you prior to end of September because the schedule depends from the local port authorities.
However ferries yes they do run in Dec and around all year. For some destinations (Syros,Ydra,Spetses,Crete etc) the trips are very often (daily). For others (Kalymnos, Donousa etc) they are more rare.
Should you specify your destination I may provide you with relative info. Kindly do not hesitate to contact me !

All year long. Otherwise the islands would be stranded.
If you're in Athens just go to the nearest travel agent. I take the
ferryboat from Athens to Kalymnos and back. About 9 hours or so, one way.

As far as I know they run all year round, possibly there are less itineraries per day for certain islands. As schedules tend to change from summer period to winter period, maybe that's why you can't get them on line yet. Try to contact the carrier directly or a travel agency at Piraeus.
