my dr prescribed augmentin 875 mg for my sinus infection on Saturday. I do feel somewhat better. I can breath better. I still have sinus pressure & congestion. today i started coughing & having burning sensation in my chest when i breathe( i have asthma & i do not smoke). so i think i'm starting with bronchitis. Will the augmentin help this too or should I call the doctor to change the antibiotic?

also, my dr advised to stop taking dayquil/nyquil products because i mentioned i had experienced heart palpitations the night before. she did prescribe nasonex in addition to the augmentin, & my regular asthma medications, advair & albuterol.

I would recommend you call your doctor. With you having asthma, you may be developing bronchitis. Your doctor would be the best person to answer this, but continue taking the augmentin until you her from your doctor. The weather changes and all could very well throw you into bronchitis or even pneumonia. Don't take chances, call your doctor tomorrow.

Augmentin is often prescribed for upper resipiratory infections. The coughing could be a result of post nasal drip caused by your sinus infection slowly clearing and sinuses draining. However, call you dr. to be sure.

Augmentin will help with brochial infections but there are a few that are better and that is biaxin, levaquin or zithromax otherwise known as z-pack. Talk to your Dr. to find out what he suggests. but those are my suggestions. I get chronic infections in my lungs all the time. I have COPD and never smoked either. SO good luck. Take care and god bless

This should help as well.
anyway it seems now that you have bronchitis as well which is not unusual with sinus infection or could be just a virl thing.
I hope you are taking anti-histamine too.
since you have asthma too, its kinda hard to tell whats going on eaxctly because any kind of infection may trigger asthma attack & i hope you are taking asthma medication.
The golden point here is:
if you noticed that you are using your asthma puffer more than usual, then you may need to contact your doctor immediatly or evenm go to the ER because this is (more frequent use of puffer) the early sign of impendiung asthma attack

augmentin is a very strong antibiotic....
he probably gave you that because you have resistance to others
if u started ur treatment on Saturday you must keep it for 5 days...if things aren't better on Wednesday call a doctor

I doubt that the doctor will change the antibiotic before you finish the whole course. Let the doctor know if you have any breathing problems - like your asthma worsening.

do not stop taking the antib. take it until it is completely gone, or else the infectoin will become a superinfection and it will be harder ot get rid of. as far as the other symptoms i'd call yoru doctor and see if you could take something else with this antib. to cure it. best of luck

Antibiotics don't work for everything and please stop combining over the counter medications with prescription medications. This could cause very serious complications so check with your doctor before accepting advice from anyone who is not medically knowledgable.
