How can I identify what kind of spiders these are? We live in the Chicagoland area. The spider is brown about 1 to 1.5 inches with a slight tan stripe on it's back. We have killed about 6 of them just today!!! Are they poisonous? Afraid to get whole house exterminated because of children and dog. What to do- CANT SLEEP.

Relax they are harmless as long as they do not have a violin shape marking on their backs. (if they do they are the brown recluse spider and poison would be advisable). they sould too large to be brown recluse or blackwidow spiders. (the latter are black sedentary and have an hour glass marking.) Your guys sound like wolf spides given your description. These are hunting spiders and their fangs are too small to pierce your skin. They do not usually bite. In other words relax mix yourself a martini. It is possible that they are females getting out of the cold (if your area has been cold lately) and will go into dormancy for the whole winter.) Wait 7 to 10 days before you call an exerminator. If they stop coming in then you will not need one.If you have a lot of spiders year round your house is too dmap and dehumidifiers and air conditioners may useful for the warm weather.

Hmmm, two hairy spiders. Tell your parents to stay out of the house.
