Is it because people get a better tax deduction if they charge higher shipping?

When they sell for .99 they only have to give e-bay a little money - because everything they get for shipping is there's- and most people who sell on e-bay don't pay taxes unless they are making a living off it

I believe so. I got a cpu for $2 and the seller overcharged to the tune of $20. They claimed it was for the packaging and shipping. The shipping was a quarter of the $20 they charged.

The seller has to pay e-bay a percentage based on the final selling price and not the shipping cost. They's trying to scam ebay a little.

I think that's how they make their money, by selling cheap and charging a lot to ship.

Nah, they set their minimum price using the shipping and handling fees and all you are bidding on is their profit.
