I don't think bending down or stretching will hurt the baby what so ever. You of course do not want to lift anything super heavy, but light lifting is okay. The only think I can think of with the stretching is the old wives tale that if you stretch the umbilical cord will get wrapped around the baby's neck, but this is NOT TRUE.
Maybe they just are concerned for you and want you to be careful. They are just being good coworkers. :)

It's true that reaching over your head a lot can affect you by making you dizzy, but bending down and stretching as long as it's within it's limits shouldn't be an issue at all. Just be sure to lift with your knees and not your back and not to lift anything over 20 lbs (it's what my obgyn told me when I was pregnant). When you begin to feel sore or start hurting then stop and take a break. I'd say in a few more weeks, say 8 more, you may not be able to do a lot of bending at all or lifting because your growing belly will become more prominent so limit all those activities. Just use your best judgement and play it by ear. Your body will tell you when enough is enough.

I have 3 children and i always had to bend down, lift and stretch. My doctor always said, "If it hurts, don't do it." It will not hurt your baby. Think about everything that is surrounding him/her. They are very well protected in there and your body will tell you what you can and can not handle.

lol when you are pregnant you will have everyone tell you not to do this and not to do that... just human nature. As long as you are not lifting more than 20Ibs, then lifting, bending and stretching is fine. people just like to put their opinions in when you are pregnant. Especially freaking ppl coming up to you and touching your belly... i hated that. I hated strangers coming up to me and not asking.. just touch my stomach... rude... you don't see my rubbing some fat guys beer gut do ya? lol as if i would want to lol

My mom and mother inlaw told me the same and I asked the doc. they said basicly that they were full of **** lol

They're probably scared that you will go into preterm labor or something. Most of that is an old-wives tale. Try to be careful, don't do any jarring motions, don't fall, etc. Other than that, enjoy your life during this time! Congratulations!

No, those are old wives' tales. Just nod and do what you want. You won't be hurting your baby at all! If you're seriously concerned about it, call and talk to the phone nurse at your doctor's office to put your mind at ease.

It will not affect you, as long as you don't get dizzy. I did all that stuff all the way until the birth of my baby. He was fine. Do whatever you want, but listen to your body if it aches.
