There's nothing wrong with putting your children's needs ahead of your own. But sometimes you do need to take some time just for yourself. If you are unhappy then your child will know it and they wont be happy either. Don't neglect yourself. You are important too.

I am a single mom. My ex is in prison so there is no child support. I make too much money for assistance, but not enough to pay all of the bills. I am working two jobs. I put in horrendous hours just so that my daughter can have what she needs. She didn't ask for any of his to happen.

I owe it to her to try and get her everything that she needs to the best of my ability. She at least deserves that much. She has needs that I can take care of and make her life better than mine was growing up.

I get satisfaction in knowing that her life is better. She is not ashamed to bring her friends to the house or to have her friends meet her mom. She is proud of me. That is all I need to not feel neglectful of myself.

I want to give her the world.

Yes, when you put it that way.

But keep in mind that in order for your daughter to be happy and healthy, and live in a good environment, YOU have to be happy as well. If you are going to be so selfless that you start to resent her deep down, or that you're bitter about the way your life turned out, then she will know, and her personality as an adult will reflect that.

Also, depending on how old she is, she probably understands or will someday understand that you need things too. It's fine for her to think of you as a real person who needs certain things to be happy and who will become sad or depressed if things go badly all the time.

As a mom, you should always put your childs primary needs above your own...but not at the expense of your own needs, such as your health,well-being, personal happiness, and mental and emotional well-being.
If you are sick, or mentally or emotionally unstable,or in an abusive or neglectful relationship, then you will not be able to provide a stable and healthy lifestyle for your child and that can carry over into her life and on into his adult life.
This is not to say that we are talking about putting her needs of numerous toys, material possessions or closetfuls of clothes above your own needs, as these are not essential to her physical and emotional wellbeing.
Her essential needs are unconditional Love, protection, a safe place to grow up, food, basic clothing, and a good education.
If you provide all those things, then no one can fault you for putting her needs above your own.
Good Luck!!!

That depends on how old your daughter is? That depends on what your trying to give. You can't buy your daughter's needs.. you can make time for yourself as well.. even if its once a month.. ALL mother's need a day off from, mothering, counseling, working, cooking, cleaning. you have to take time out to enjoy you. before you burn out and be worthless to all parties.

Your Human.. you have needs, you do have a life.. enjoy it you only get one, you can't turn back the clock, and its ticking away.

Your daughters needs are very important and they should come first...just make sure you are not confusing NEEDS with WANTS. You do have to take care of yourself so that you can be there for her. Again make sure you know the difference between WANTS and NEEDS. Good luck.
