My whole life, every year at Christmas, my mom and me would watch The Nutcracker on TV. One year, I surprised her with tickets to the Nutcracker ballet that came to town. She was so surprised...it made her cry.
Every year on July 4th, they close all the streets to traffic, and we have a huge fireworks display in the uptown business district of my city. My mom and me always tried to find a decent place to park to have a good view. After she became disabled, it was hard for her to sit under those circumstances. There was a really fine restaurant called "Top Of The Tower" on the top floor of the tallest building downtown, and for whatever reason, they decided to close, their last night being July 4th. I got reservations and we ended up sitting directly beside a window where the fireworks were. The restaurant dimmed the lights, and gave everybody a glass of Champagne, then sang Auld Lang Syne. Then they gave everybody a menu and matches, and a bottle of Champagne that had the name and date, etc on it. It was a TRULY magical night. My mom died three months later.

I can't even touch persnickety's answer. My fondest memory was when I held my adopted daughter for the first time and she was crying to beat the band. And then it all stopped and she laughed.

Besides my kids and family stuff...
I rode my bicycle from San Francisco, CA to Washington, D.C. It was a fraternity event, but it was for charity. While the ride itself was fun, we did a lot of work...puppet shows, friendship visits (we would help feed disabled folks and play games with them). Sometimes these events took place after a 100+ mile ride.
In Omaha, NE we went to a dance after our ride. We barely had enough time to shower and change clothes. The last thing us college guys wanted to do was dance after a long day riding a bike in the heat. We got to the dance and sat down in chairs to be the wallflowers so we could rest. The kids had other plans...
They swarmed us, grabbed our hands, and pulled us on the dance floor. It was amazing...we had no choice but to get our groove on! They were laughing and dancing and having a blast, and so were we. A lot of them had family with them and their family had a great time as well. We pulled them on the dance floor, too.
Afterwards, we stayed behind to help clean up. The older sister of one of the disabled came up to me and introduced herself. She told me she and all of the other families really appreciated us showing up every year. (The team goes on an annual basis) She also said that that event every Summer is the ONLY dance those people get to have and as soon as it's over they talk about it until the next dance next year. And they look forward to it immediately.
That's a fond memory for me because you never know how your act of kindness will affect someone. We didn't want to be there, but we all ended up wishing we could've dance all night. I'd still go back if I had the opportunity.
