If you think about it, malls have pretty much every other kind of store- but not grocery stores. Why? I'm not saying I think they should have them, it just dawned on me.

I live in California, so I've never seen a grocery store in one here. Maybe it's just a California thing.

It seems like the concept of a mall is 'one-stop-shopping', so naturally we would like the convenience of a grocery store there as well. (The day-care is good too.)
I wonder if most malls are in close proximity to a grocery store - therefore...
Anyway, it's a good question!

It depends on the type of mall. High-end fashion malls are not likely to have a grocery store. However, in Toronto, there are several malls with grocery stores.

Downtown, in the underground mall at College and Yonge, there is a major supermarket chain that is open 24 hours.

Uptown, in Fairview Mall, there is a grocery store, although it's more of a specialty produce type of thing.

In the suburbs, many Chinese malls have supermarkets, such as the one in Market Village (Pacific Mall).

I was in Egypt, and in their malls, there's a grocery store (kinda like a super walmart type store) in their mall. it was funny.. but i don't know why they don't do that here in the US.
