Gevera Bert: Hey, if ripping out the still beating hearts of captured warriors or priests wearing the flayed skins of pubescent girls doesn't disgust you, you are probably more than two standard deviations from the mean by any measure of disgust.

Possibly not. But the concept of war is different between the two. The Aztec war tactics were based on capture and therefore did not intentionally kill when fighting as opposed to the Assyrians that fought for power. If the two squared off the battle would have ended quickly because the Assyrians were pros at psychological warfare and the Aztecs would have been caught off guard.

Assyrians were known for more than just their war tactics. They also were known for inventing valuable innovations used today such as the wheel, number 0, glass, lens, chariot, helmet and many other important innovations. The strength of the ancient Assyrians lead to their downfall.

They probably would have been jealous that they didn't think of the religious angle. It would have given them an excuse for more flaying and impaling and when you're into flaying and impaling any excuse is a good one.
