Carinvale was cancelled after the second season and HBO is not planning on going on for a third season. The primary reasons of not pursuing a third season were that the second season didn't boost viewership and that the creator and executive producer of the show, Daniel Knauf, has signed on to produce a series for Showtime.

I have heard this rumor, too. I hope they pick up the show again, because HBO has deteriorated ever since they cancelled it. Actually, the plot-line calls for 8 seasons in all to tell the complete story! (so we need 6 more).
This, in my opinion, is a television masterpiece.
Even more interesting is all the complex discussions about the plot, characters, episodes, and tarot meanings on the "carnivale" message boards on HBO.com
