I have a very difficult time falling asleep. I usually end up having a drink and taking benadryl, which generally knocks me out. If you don't want to go that route though, you could try some other things. I used to not drink so I had to be creative.

First of all, wake up at the same time every day, if possible, then go to bed when you're tired. Even if you can sleep in, don't. This way, your body will start to establish a natrual rhythm. If you smoke, try not to an hour or so before bed. Before you go to bed, turn off the lights. Make sure things are ready for bed and you don't have to turn on the lights again before you go to sleep. If you watch TV watch something relaxing, not too stimulating like an action show or a comedy.

If you're like me and the reason you can't sleep is because as soon as your head hits the pillow your mind won't shut up, try this, it works for me: get out of bed, and go and sit on your living room couch in the dark. Don't read. Don't watch TV. Just sit there, doing nothing, in the dark. After about 1/2 hour of this, I find myself drifting off and then I can usually get to sleep.

I use to, now I work 2 jobs and don't have trouble falling asleep at all. I like to sleep when it is cool so I make sure the temperature is right. If I get hot I'll wake up in the middle of the night. Also, cut out the caffeine.

Sometimes I do have trouble sleeping but the solution depends on why I'm having trouble sleeping.

When I'm tired but my brain just won't shut off the solution is a glass or two of wine just before bed time.

When I'm just "not tired" the solution is getting more exercise during the day.

The worst thing to do is watch TV or get on the computer!!!

Yes, I do sometimes. But lately, I haven't had any trouble. You see, I found this solution in which you listen to music. I have a small stereo by my bed, and I put in my favorite CD, and turn it down in volume, so It's not loud at all. Then, I try not to think too hard, but just slowly move along with the music, and if any calm thoughts come to your mind, I usually think about them, until I fall alseep. Plus, the good thing is that if my CD stops when it's at then end of it, and it only plays through it once. I works pretty well, you should try it! **GOOD LUCK**!!!!

Yep, I'm with Superboredom up there. Nothing helps. I wake up and watch tv...history channel as a matter of fact. My sister says that if she wakes up after 3 am, she'll just get up for the day. I usually get up about 1:30 and fall back at about 4. I have anxiety. I'm not sure if the insomnia causes the anxiety or the anxiety causes the insomnia.

No, I can sleep just fine.
How do I do it?
1.) Write down on a piece of paper my plan for next day. My problems bug me, and when I go to bed I'm afraid I'll forget them, and this keeps me up. Therefore, I write it down, so I know I'll have them next day. (also write down solutions, or possible solutions for the problems listed.)
2.) Read a book, any book, which can get me away from "reality." A handheld video game works also, but with low screen brightness...

YES!!! I stay awake for hours before I fall alseep!!! I find concentrating on your breathing helps and closing your eyes and thinking of a deep purple or blue or calm color. Not pink or something. Hope it helps.
