The distance around a circle is called the circumference. The distance across a circle through the center is called the diameter.
Solution: C = d * pi
= 8 * 3.1416
= 25.1328

Diameter is 8. Multiply diameter by pi (3.14) to get circumference.
8*3.14=slightly more than 24, right? 25.13 sounds right.

All the above answers are great.
I'm only answering because I hate when bad information gets put on the web as fact and it confuses people.
The "Science Teacher" said pi was 3.1417 and while all of these are approximations - the first digits are actually 3.14159.
Other acceptable estimations throughout time have been:
22/7
3
3.14
