Every school talks about tradition this and tradition that I wanted to know how far back each tradition goes.

Probably the ivy league schools like yale princeton and harvard. Harvard is the oldest higher learning instituition in the country.

The oldest tradition would be Rutgers and Princeton, who played the first game in 1869. The longest continal rivalry in college football belongs to Lehigh and Lafayette, who have played well over 130 times. Amongst Division I-A programs, the longest continual rivalry is Minnesota-Wisconsin.
Most would probably be, for good or bad, Notre Dame, with Knute Rockne, the Four Horsemen, Touchdown Jesus, the Golden Dome, etc.

The Cornhuskers have the strongest and most faithful followers in all of college football. We have the longest consecutive home sellout record at almost 290 games in a row. From the days of the Bugeaters and they were once called, to the Big Red in Crimson and Cream, they are tops in college tradition. Even Keith Jackson believes that to be true. Brent Musberger used to believe it too until he got a open container ticket after the pitt game in Lincoln last year. Ha Ha

The Ivy league schools probably have older traditions but as far as prominent football programs; Notre Dame and Penn State have both been playing since 1877.
