School started so kids are not driving around no more. Off course is BS.

The government insists it is because supply is up (more oil has been found in American controlled areas) and demand is down (summer is over and kids are back at school, so far fewer vacations are being taken). And I do think to a point that explains it. But you are right, it has dropped a huge amount in the span of a couple of weeks. Too much to be explained by that explanation from the government.

I would go with the oil companies knowing that they may have screwed their friends in the Repubican ranks by raising the prices so high. People are ticked off because they blame Republicans (who are in charge right now) for the previous meteoric rise in gas prices. So the oil companies have dropped the prices down very close to election time to better ensure Republicans are voted back in to Congress. Once elections are over the price will go back up (no matter who wins Congress, but if Republicans win it will go up even higher than if Democrats win).

with real estate taking a major hit, food prices going up constantly. With home heating coming up. Walmart loosing ground in consumer spending the oil companies knew that if they didn't lower those prices we would be in a recession in 2007. No jobs no extra money no extra spending we are spent out and our credit is maxed out. People were getting angry and when people get angry they lash out. I don't know about you but I am angry. I spend 28 dollars to fill up a plymouth neon. I couldn't imagine filling up a Chevy Tahoe or a Cadillac Escalade. So guess what I don't drive as much make a list of things I need to do when I go out and I deliberately don't have any discresionary money. If I think that way you can bet others do and if you think the government doesn't know this you are kidding yourself. Don't buy a gas guzzler. The only way to have power is to only drive just what you need and not a whole lot more.

It's all about supply and demand. The powerful elite controls the supply and makes demands from the rest of us as they see fit. If there is less driving after summer is over, why is there so much more traffic during school months? Oh yea, the media has calenders and can count the days leading up to 11/07/06. Thankfully, about half of us know this fact. Sadly, the other half either doesn't know or even worse, supports it.

Crude oil prices are down.
And why is that? Well, The Israeli incursion into Lebanon has ended, Iran is being relatively well behaved, The rebel insurgency in Nigeria hasn't blown up any refineries or pipelines lately...

Read the paper. Oil prices go up on bad news and drop on good news or no news. The US really has very little control of crude oil prices.

That and seasonal demand in the US (gas prices drop after Labor Day every year because it's the end of the summer vacation season, in case you hadn't noticed! The media knows that, and it was a very easy prediction)

The elections are coming that's how . The oil companies want the Republicans back in ( big profits ) and if lowering the gas prices help , then they will do it . Just watch after the elections , gas will go back up .

summer was over, heating oil was not yet in demand, no stop in the supply. The news of possible new oil ( even though years, it was good news)

It happens this time every year when weather is not hurting production. No crystal ball to see it. And in the end of Nov and/or first of Dec prices go back up, nothing to do with elections just normal demand

There was a drop because oil prices by the barrel went down. The effects of this are reaching us now, which is how the media knew beforehand. Fill up though, because they are back on the rise!

more gas has been found off the coast; also election time is coming soon. The big boys have the politicians in their pockets and the prices will go back up as soon as election time is over.
it's funny how now we're conditioned to think that any price below 2.00 is a deal. lol
thanks government!!

Election year politics, enjoy it while it last if the repuglicans maintain the majority in both houses it will go right back up for no reason. Other then the repuglicans always look the other way when big business is robbing us.
