Just winterize the equipment and the lines. If this pool will leak out by itself, let it. Nothing will get damaged and the bottom itself will be getting redone when you drop the new liner in spring anyway. The walls will be fine, unless a meteor stikes the pool. No idea where people get the idea they'll collapse. They're fastened top and bottom to the rails and held upright and together vertically . You'd have to drive a truck into it to hurt them, well, I guess an evil person could kick and dent one, between uprights. The dent will pop out when it's refilled.

if you dump the water you will run the risk of the walls falling in during the winter requiring you to basically dig out a new pool.
don't drain it unless you are willing do do this. if all you want to do is to replace the liner before swim season starts, for what ever reason, winterize it. i might note that it may be more cost effective to have the liner changed now at the fall of the year when the pool contractors business has slowed down and then go about winterizing it, because in the spring, they become overloaded, thus charging higher prices and at their mercy
as to when they can come out to perform the work.

OH no... that would be a waste of money.. If you are going to put on a new liner in the spring.. you will have to dump the water won't you? So.. why not dump it now and forget about winterizing.. I am curious as to why you have to replace the liner? is it OLD... worn?

Yes - winterizing a pool is much more complex than simply emptying it or adding chemicals to it.
You need to winterize your pump, chlorinator and other equipment.
