I accidentally dropped my cell phone battery into the heating vent of my escape on my dashboard (don't ask, i'm an idiot). It fell down somewhere and I don't know where it went or how to get it. Any suggestions?

It's not going to be easy. Time for a new battery, I'm thinking.

You will have to take the "ducting" off the bottom of heater box, - if you are lucky, - you will get to it that way. Not knowing which side it fell down in, I can only tell you that it is easier to get it out of the drivers side. Ultimately you may have to take apart the whole "case" that the heater system feeds into and through to find the battery.

What I would do if it was mine, is to see if it causes anything to work wrong. If all works ok, just disreguard the thing, (keeping in mind that it might be cause of problems later, -if it slides in between air doors or something!) The ducting material itself is mostly plastic, so if a little acid should escape from battery, it probably won't hurt anything!

I assume you are talking about the defroster ducts, which feed down into the main heat ducting/heater box... One side of heater box (at pasengers side of car) has heater core, other side has cooling evaporator, -- an air door closes from one to the other to allow air to pass through for heating or cooling. I would hope that the battery would be located somewhere near where the defroster duct for that side goes into the "box". If it is small enough it may rattle around till it works it's way out the heater box in center of car, -- and falls on the floor someday!

I thought I would be slick one time in my f150 and stick the air freshener behind the vent, it ended up falling into my hvac box and didnt get retrieved until the heater core went bad several years later. It will take removal of the dash to get it out. More than likely it will not hurt anything but you may hear it rattle around once in a while.

Wow. Well I'd advise you not to use your heater until you get it out of there.

Get on your back and lie on the floor of your car. Look up under there. I'll bet it is in that accordion like vent that runs under the dash.

Be more careful!! LOL...That's OK. I once had a shotgun shell roll into my heating vent. Talk about a mad scramble to get it out!

You will have to partially take apart the dash to fish it out if u cant reach it by removing the vent cover. If u can remove the cover you could try a magnetic tiped tool to fish it out. I would NOT turn the heater on!!!!! The Cadmium batteries if heated could explode!! FYI.

The cover of the vent in which you dropped it in Can be removed if you shine a flashlight in the vent and can see your battery. Or you can look under you dash. There will be vent hoses under there. Big Black accordion type hoses. Jiggle them around till you feel one that has something in it. Disconnect the one you feel it in and work it out of the hose
