In this age of mass population and big business?

Not safe at all!

A lot of money can be made by building on what has previously been an undeveloped site. If there is money waiting to be made, then you can surely expect that anyone with half an eye on making a profit is going to be making every attempt to get the Go Ahead to build on these sites.

Every so often, a council will bow to some request for just a teeny bit of unused land for a house or two, and now and again, a government minister will announce plans to provide extra housing to the soon-to-be impoverished first time buyers.

The ever increasing costs of houses, is far from desirable, as it tends to make the population less mobile and unable to follow the jobs, but it is an additional factor in the race to build anywhere and everywhere, not least for the purpose of making a fat profit.

The undeveloped Green Belt can only hold out so long, and ultimately it is going to disappear under monstrous piles of concrete and brick.

I thought you only cared about England.

With John Prescott still in charge of new housing, the greenbelt is not very safe. Then again, nowhere is safe with prezza around.

(Things would be no different under a tory government btw).

It's perfectly safe.
Just as long as it's not in the hands of a property developer who either:
a) knows the right handshake, or
b) knows the appropriate level of backhander.

Prescot has a tunnel vision on this. He wants houses for immigrants so green belt has no hope of surviving.
