According to the Journal of vision 2001, the researchers note that horses are not color blind and that a horse has limited dichromatic color vision.

Apparently there is no scientific proof that horses are colourblind. They certainly see things quite differently from us, though:

I think that they respond to movement much more than we do (we can only really detect movement when it is in our peripheral vision). They are a 'hunted' animal rather than a 'hunter' ... (Oh, go on! I know some horses are 'hunters'!) ... so movement would be much more important to them than colour in the wild but that doesn't mean they can't see it - just that it is less important.

I think i read in one of my horse text books, that they are color blind. They can see a tad bit of color but an apple ( red i think) isnt red to them, it is some yellow green mix that loks discusting. I dont know of this helped, but that is what i found. ( yes, i do own a horse)

horses are not color blind but have a limited range of color vision, especially for the "nature" colors of brown and yellow tones. google it!

How often have I answered a question like this in " answers "? I see some one has told you dichromatic; they are correct. The rule of thumb for advanced mammals ( most, actually ), save higher primates, is dichromisim. Please inculcate this people.
