It's been a long time since I read it, but pretty much, the dad dies, the mom and kids go and live with I believe it's the dead dad's mom, then the grandma puts the kids in the attic, at first the mom visits every day, then it goes to every week, then hardly ever at all. Then the grandma starts poisoning the kids I think with white powdery stuff made to look like powdered sugar on like doughnuts, so at first the kids think they are getting a special treat. But then they start to get sick. The mom eventually comes and tells them that she's going to get remarried. The kids figure out they are getting poisoned. I think eventually they attack the grandma when she's giving them their food and the escape. That's the jist of it, I'm sure they have notes somewhere on the internet, I'd look them up if this is for a book report or something.

I don't remember chapter by chapter but I can give you a run down of the book.

The father dies and the mother is strapped for money. So she deciedes to return to the home she ran away from several years earlier. The mother tells the kids they will return to the grandparents home for a short time, only long enough for her to earn back the love and inheritence.

The children must hide away from the grandfather who is on his death bed. She said that he wouldn' t approve of them and if they hid away up in the attic, she would be able to get the money quicker. The grandmother did know of the childrens exsistence, but did not like the fact they were hiding in the attic. At first the kids would make games, the older boy and girl (teems) would take care of the two younger twins.

Eventually the older kids want to know why the mother is hiding them fo so long. She gets furious with them for questioning her decisions. The mothers viists get less and less frequent. And the grandmother gets more and more abusive. After a while the younger siblings start to get sick, and definately need the sun and exercise. They advise their mother of this and she if furious. The smallest boy eventually dies, and we find out that grandmother is poisoning them. And mother has been going on with her life, with out them.

There arguments between the grankdmother and the oldest girl, and she accuses her of being intimate iwht her brother. The children finally confront the mother one last titme. In the end the run away with the littest girl, and live as a family with out the mother.

I love that book...it is sequaled by the book petals in the wind.

In the beginning the father dies.,..who is the cousin of his wife...they move to the grandmother's house where they are locked in the attic...they grow up here for the most part. Last names are darling.

One of the twins is poisoned...and dies...the other later dies. Bart....the mother's "friend" takes the mother from the kids. They later escape thus the sequal petal's in the wind. There is so much I can't go from chapter to chapter...but excellent book by V.C. Andrews. Good choice and thanks for the memory of it. By the way...the movie does the book no justice at all...the movie sucked in comparrison.

Here's the best thing I could turn up for you, using the search engine, of course: http://www.allreaders.com/Topics/info_15184.asp?BSID=0. This is not as good an answer as I had hoped to give you, but the best I've come up with in 15 or so minutes of scouring the Internet.

Hope this helps. My first choice would have been Cliff's Notes on line, but they don't offer it. That would have given you the chapter by chapter info you're seeking.

Good Luck on your journey in literature.

Can you not read the book? It's about a dollar at any used book store, and a pretty easy read too, I mean, come on, it's VC Andrews...not exactly War and Peace.
