Texas was a Confederate state during the Civil War, the war between the "North" and the "South." It shares this historical heritage and the prolonged institution of slavery with the South. Today, the Texan accent and culture are clearly associated with the South.

There isn't a distinct "Western" culture that you could speak of. Use the Gateway Arch of St. Louis, the "Gateway to the West," as a marker. There is no commonality today that really links Kansas to Washington to Texas - all part of the Western United States.

Therefore, Texas is part of the South.

that would be the south. probably because it is one of the southernmost states? It can be considered MIDwest too, but geographically speaking, it is more south than west.
