OK, i got 1988 chrysler station wagon and the motor is old and it is 2.2 liter engine so i need a new motor. So if i want to buy a new/used motor dose it has to be the same kind of motor or can i just get any kind of motor off another old car??????

i took it to auto machine shop and they all told me to get a new motor

it depends on what your willing to change, the motor has to fit the transmittion unless you change it, the motor mounts unless you change them, i would put the same motor back in, or get a new car

you could go to the boneyard and get another engine as long as it is a 2.2 litre and install it but the only thing is you don't know what you are getting from the boneyard unless they give you a guarantee for it. If the body is nice on the car and everything else is in good shape Im sure you could have your engine rebuilt for a couple thousand dollars if thats the way you want to go.

You're better off replacing it with an identical motor, as most states frown on this stuff when you can't pass smog inspection.

Why not rebuild your OLD eng? There should be an auto machine shop in your town that can do it.

Go to junk yard and buy one from one that has been wrecked.
