bad breath can be caused by gastro intestinal disorders, you need to be checked by an internal medicine doctor to rule out the source being in your digestive tract. also just brushing your teeth will not kill bacteria that cause bad breath, you need regular cleanings and checkups by a dental hygienist and dentist and you need to floss and brush twice a day at the least and also need to use a tongue scraper to scrape away bacteria from as much of your tongue as you can reach..

When you brush your teeth, make sure you brush your WHOLE mouth. Make sure you get the roof and sides of your mouth and your tongue too, the top, bottom, and sides! Once you brush them, use Listerine because it's good for bad breath. If that doesn't work, then chew gum like Wintergreen or something that smells good until you see a dentist. You might have gingivitis or something. At least you know about your breath. Most people don't know their breath stinks so recognizing it is the first step.

Floss and brush your teeth and lightly brush your tongue before going to bed. Use a soft toothbrush. Whenever you brush your teeth, use baking soda. It tastes awful until you get used to it. You can mix it with noniodized salt so that it doesn't taste so bad. I'm used to it now so I use just the baking soda. Use your tongue to feel whether your teeth feel smooth. If you feel any "scum" on your teeth, rinse the toothbrush and dip it into the baking soda again and brush those spots. (Store your baking soda for toothbrushing in your own baggie or other container.) Keep rinsing your mouth and brushing with fresh baking soda until your teeth are really smooth. Then use a tablespoon of 3% hydrogen peroxide and a tablespoon of water to swish out your mouth. Spit it out. Repeat until mixture is used up. After last spit-out, let the mixture fizz for about 60 seconds. Keep your mouth open a little and let it fizz into the sink. Then rinse several times. In the morning, after breakfast, you can brush with just the baking soda. If your mouth is in bad shape (bleeding gums) you would want to floss in the morning too until the bleeding gums are healed. Follow the instructions on the floss package. Use the diluted peroxide only before bedtime and DON'T swallow it. I wouldn't use Listerine at all because its high alcohol content puts your mouth bacteria out of balance and that can make your bad breath worse than ever. Good luck!

Brushing is good but you also have to floss to get all that junk out of your teeth. Floss prior to brushing and brush your tongue too. It may mean too that you are eating foods that give you the smelly breath. Cut down! So, the 4 steps to follow would be
1. floss
2. brush teeth
3. brush tongue
4. gargle with listerine.

Many causes:

1. Rotting teeth (if you brush your teeth, that's not a problem)
2. What you eat. If you eat a lot of garlic and/or onions, drink a lot of coffee, eat food with curry or very pungent spices, they tend to "stick around for a while" to say the least.

If it's something you eat, try stopping for a few days and see if it helps - otherwise, try listerine.

I used to have really bad breath but then I talked to my mom, who is a dental person and here is what she told me:
-Always brush your teeth 3 times a day, no exceptions.
-Floss your teeeth at least once a day because food stay between your teeth, causing it to rot and smell bad.
-Use mouthwash at least once a week to give your mouth an extra fresh smell!
-Don't chew sugar gum a lot, it rots your teeth!

i don't know how well this works...but i've heard that chewing on parsley gets garlic smell out. and since that's a pretty strong smell...it might help with your situation as well. be sure to floss...cuz if the food particles stay put it'll cause mouth odor. i remember that before i got my wisdom teel taken out my mouth had this awful lingering taste that wouldn't go away no matter what i did. come to find it was the cavity that was taken away with the darn teeth. so...a oral check up should do wonders too...hope this helps!! =)
