i would say the south but then again it is in the west well i would say people who live their speak like their souther so either southern or southwest
i would also say that it is more southern than western

I don't know what options you have for declaring a states position, but Texas is generally thought of as being in the Southwest, like are New Mexico and Arizona. Ft. Worth, Texas claims to be, "Where the West Begins."

The west is west of Texas and the south is east of Texas.
There's Texas, and then there's other places, but Texas is right smack dab in the center of everywhere else.
