you need to be more specific...what are you looking for in a dog?...do you have kids?...are you willing to exercise it daily?...big/small?...
In my opinion you can never go wrong with a Labrador-Mix or a Golden Retriever-Mix...please pick a mutt from your local animal shelter, the people there are I'm sure willing to answer any of your questions and hook you up with the perfect match!

Schnauzer(very protective & loyal), French Bulldog (expensive but keeps you in stitches) or a Boston Terrier ((smarter than a lot of people I know!)

If you like Fluffy dogs then Maltese, they do not shed and they don't bark a lot.

I have a pug. And I love him! He is so smart, he dose tricks, he's potty trained, he walks with me. People are always stoping me saying how he is so cute. He's like part of my family.
