science homework= how does the process of convection rely on conduction? I know the definitions and I have a vague idea of the answer, I'm just not sure how to word it.

The conduction of heat creates differences in pressure; which then stimulates the motion of material from higher pressure areas to lower pressure areas--convection.

Conduction: movement of heat from particle to particle. It occurs when tow objects at different temperatures are in direct contact. Example: heating an iron pot on a stove.

Convection: movement of heat with particles within liquids and gases. Example: the central heating system of some homes.

Heat is transferred by three methods; radiation, conduction, and convection. Radiation is the method by which the sun's energy reaches the earth. This energy travels in the form of waves which will pass most easily through a vacuum. Conduction is the direct transfer of energy from one molecule to another by collision. The faster the molecules are moving, the hotter the substance is. Convection is the organized motion of large groups of molecules based on their relative densities or temperatures.
