Beryl is an aquamarine, or an emerald. It all depends on the amount of the minerals in the magma that led to its formation hundreds of thousands of years later.

Alexandrite, that is a beauty! Much more rare than diamonds, and sooo much more expensive. As a class ring, I believe in using what you like, not what anyone determines to be the color for your birthmonth, etc.

In terms of the cost of a beryl, it will all depend on the intensity of its color. A deep blue aquamarine, or emerald will be outrageously more expensive than a crystal-clear stone. And also, if hte gem has impurities, that brings down the price too.

Yes, beryl can be used in a class ring. Both Alexandrite and Emeralds are beryl. Here are some Beryl rings on Ebay http://search.ebay.com/beryl-ring_W0QQfkrZ1QQfnuZ1

oops, edit: Wanda T is right. I meant Aquamarine, not Alexandrite.

Yes it can, but since Emeralds are Beryl I'm going to assume it is expensive and not worth it.
