The British: were considered the most powerful army and navy on earth at the time. They had a ton of resources they could pour into the war. They were disadvantaged by the fact that they had to sail accross the ocean to fight the colonists. The brist were also involved with the French at the time.

The colonists: were advantaged by the fact that this was their home. They knew the landscape well and were able to wage a non-convential agianst the Brits. As well the colonist had the French on their side.The French provided crucial support to the colonists via warships that kept the British busy.

Britian had a better army than did the colonists! But the colonists had a better lay of the land!

They both had a disadvantage - they had no internet to cheat on their homework with.
