As some people have said, HomeTown Buffet is just one of several names this chain is known by. That's because the owners came from two differenct restaurants and then blended everything together under the name of HomeTown Buffet. Sometime after the company was started, it went Public, in other words, it sold Stock which gave it an influx of capital. During this time, the chain aquired several other restaurants and even purchased several Golden Corral Restaurants. The purchased restaurants kept their own names.
Round about the year 2000, HomeTown Buffet was the 11 largest fast food chain in the United States. In about 2002, the chain was sold and the new owners decided to go Private with the business. This means that they had to Buy Out all the people who had Stock - which they did, and spent approximately $16,000.000.00 turning the business back into a non-stock company.

It looks like they are all over: http://direct.where2getit.com/cwc/apps/w2gi.php?template=search&client=buffets Here in California it's called Hometown Buffet but it can also be called Country Buffet or Old Country Buffet. I guess it depends on the location.
