Now all you hear from Democrats is how horrified they are at losing civil liberties, but it seems to me that a lot of those same people were curiously quiet when Clinton was using the Constitution for toilet paper and earning the reputation of having the "worst record on Civil Rights since Woodrow Wilson".

"Moreover, the Clinton administration is -- as the ACLU's Laura Murphy recently told the National Law Journal -- "the most wire-tap-friendly administration in history.""
The irony is so thick you could spread it on your breakfast muffins...

member8989: Once again, from the Village Voice: "Committing perjury before a federal grand jury, as Clinton is revealed to have done, is not a private act, no matter the private behavior being lied about. And perjury is the most dangerous of all public acts because it can hide all other crimes. Most repellent is what Bill Clinton has done to Paula Jones. ... Clinton is not fit to be president, and his felonies--perjury along with obstruction of justice--will lead to his impeachment.... It has become brutally clear that any former object of his lust who threatens his presidency should be put into the Witness Protection Program."

dinodino: Hentoff was, and always has been, one of the few remaining clear-thinking liberal voices. Unfortunately, he stood largely alone in criticizing Clinton for his abuses of power...
...Of course, had Clinton been a Republican... ah, but the liberal double-standard is well-documented. No need for me to rehash THAT.

Both parties aren't respecting the rights, liberties and principles this country was founded on, just to different degrees. But since W has been president he's pushed this country closer and closer to a fascist dictatorship, that's what horrifies and disgusts me. Remember lying over and over and over again to the public, the "Unitary Executive, "I'm the decider", torture, secret prisons, signing statements assuming legislative power, wiretapping every single call in the country, searching every e-mail, holding people without a hearing, tricking the country into invading a country that, while it's leader was not innocent, was not as an immediate threat, for conquest, money and power. Add it all together and what do you get? think about it, it's far, far worse then anything Clinton ever did. Also check out the 14 points of fascism on The project for the old American century, it's eye opening. I'd also like to add in where are the people who impeached Clinton for a B.J. where are they? not calling for the many investigations needed today.

Any specific examples or public admissions by Clinton of blatant constitutional violations? Anything confirmed by federal courts?
I'm not defending Clinton, and if broke laws he should be punished for it. Let's say Clinton did, and wasn't caught. Let's say he violated the spirit of the constitution, and maybe the letter. Let's say he even may have broken some federal laws. If someone breaks the laws, they should be tried for their crimes. That's the rule of law.
But the point is Clinton didn't go around proudly admitting breaking the law, and his violations weren't confirmed by federal courts. So, saying that Bush gets off because other people also broke the laws is like a murderer claiming to be immune from punishment because he wasn't the first person ever charged with murder. It's nonsense.
If someone breaks the laws, they pay for it. Letting one person off the hook because nobody bothered trying to convict another is an insane perversion of the rule of law, and not worthy of this country.

If Georgie Bush jumped off that bride, sounds to me like Simon would be jumping right along with him.

I agreed with Hentoff when I read his articles when originally written. If no one was complaining who the hell is Hentoff?
So all you neocons should be applauding Clinton for these actions. Not too liberal of him, huh?
