I'm trying to find out what is typically involved in the "legal person" for a company. How long they work, what they do during a workday, what responsibilities do they have. Thanks in advance!

If you mean the in-house attorney, then they generally have the same work-day as most officers or managers.

As far as duties, that varies with the deparment, and how big the company is. For a small company, there may just be one main attorney. That person would handle contract matters, policy reviews, negotiations with other companies, legal research, corporate filings, copyright and trademark issues, employee contracts, etc...

This has already kind of been said but I would say it differently... an in-house lawyer does all the legal work a company needs to have done. A company could just get a private law firm to do this work, but it would be more inconvenient and probably cost more. Having an in-house lawyer means they have legal advice on tap from someone they know and trust, without having to make appointments.

Their hours would depend on how much work there was for them to do. A big corporation will have heaps of lawyers working full-time. A small company might have one working 3 days a week.

I house attorney deals with all legal matters of the company, ensures that the company is compliance with its legal obligations, draws up contracts and provides any legal advice that the company needs. Working day is as long as it takes but usually the work load is not too heavy.

I represent several corporations by myself and I can tell you that I try to never spend more than 4 hours per day thinking about my clients' nonsense. I write some letters and make some phone calls, maybe do a little research, but that's about it unless my clients really need me. Most of my day is spent getting stoned and fumbling around my neighborhood. I always wear a suit and tie because hotter chicks talk to me than when I dress normal. I suggest that you go to law school and follow in my footsteps.
