It depends on what you're using MySpace for. If you're using it as a personal site, then depending on the circumstances I might agree. For example, sometimes you don't want certain people to know when you're online because you don't want to talk to them.
If you're using MySpace for professional purposes--for example, to promote your music if you're a musician--then hiding your online status might not be such a good idea. Wouldn't you want clients to know when you're online?
