That all goes back to slavery.
The lighter skinned blacks could work in "masters" house, while the darker blacks were relegated to the fields. So a lot of the lighter skinned Blacks fooled themselves into thinking they were better than darker Blacks. They somehow failed to realize they were ALL slaves.

I hate to pull out the slavery card but it's classical "House Slave vs Field Slave" mentality. All throughout history the lighter skinned people were treated better than darker people because most of them could actually pass for white or were closer to white. Black people have adopted that mentality and turned it on each other. It's sad but true. Every single one of my ex bf's that are married now, are with girls that are lighter than me. It's almost like the dark sisters aren't good enough for them. It's the same with black celebrities, I know you've noticed that most of them have either white wives or wives that are close to white. That's just the way it is. It's a social issue that I fear will never change.

Light and dark is a big deal with some black folks, especially 100 years ago. I think it was in New Orleans that they had the capitol C club. If you were light skinned black, you were in. Otherwise, you were a lower case c "colored" person.
Black people are the nicest people I've ever met, and also the most angry. Very frustrating.

That was long ago when the light slave got the house jobs and the dark slaves got the outside jobs. But today you can ask anyone ."the blacker the berry the sweeter the juice". Color now is a thing of the past for black people we know black is black and we come in many beautiful shades.

thats is really funny, i know what you mean but would like to see or hear someone saying that live.
if you are black or chinese or asian you should describe yourself as how it is supposed to be. I am disappointed to hear about this dark-skinned or light-skinned color thing to be honest.
I would like to see people describing themselve that I am black end of story not half or 50 % or 0.001. Your question is really a good one. These things happen

it started in the south and mutated into other places and time as well, back in the day as you might know slaves were put in classes by their skin color and the light ones could live in the house blah blah blah
so i believe it started back then and the feeling just got passed down
society makes us feel like white is right so the closer blacks are to being white...
the further away...

Not all white people are the same shade either. I can't see where it makes any difference. People are people.
