this song is soooo awesome i love the beginning when its talking about how one tries to blame stuff on god but its not his fault at all. yeah i think this song is PERFECT the way it is, the amount of acoustics is awesome and doesnt need to be changed

i don't think the god part has anything to do with people blaming stuff on god and it's not his fault. it's more like you're waiting for god to work his so-called magic ("running late?") but he never pulls through for you ("he called in")

Personally I think this song is about how people are always looking for the quick fix for their problems by using drugs and psychiatrists. "prescribed pills to ofset the shakes to ofset the pills"
Also how people are always trying to shift the blame onto something or someone else.

I do'n't want to associate all of P!ATD's songs to Palahniuk here but I'm alsmost certain they got some inspiration from Survivor for this where a certain character uses some enhacning drugs then to fix the side effecs, uses more drugs, then for those side effects more drugs and so on. It reminds me of this verse:

Prescribed pills
To offset the shakes
To offset the pills
You know you should take...
It a day at a time.


There's other verses that could be interpreted into Survivor too but they're not as conclusive in my eyes.

Honestly I think this song is, like "It's Time To Dance," an allusion to Invisible Monsters as well, because think about it... "the hospice" is the place where the main character's "dead" brother was sent when he first contracted gonorrhea, "I am alone in this bed, house, and head" is alluding to the main character's solitude - her being an invisible monster - and god calling in is a referrence to her waiting for Him to come and save her but he doesn't pull through

oh, and also, the "cut above all the rest" and "sick and sad patients on first name basis with all the top physicians" is alluding to the center where Brandy Alexander and the main character's "dead" brother got their sex change operations (a "cut" above, hint hint) and they get so many operations they're on "first name basis..."

sorry, but one more...the "she" who "never fixes this, but at least she makes me forget" is a referrence to Brandy Alexander, Queen Supreme, who, though she can't fix the main character's face, still treats her with respect and at least helps her forget her troubles

its hard to explain..its a matter of what you think about it

i think its about people who take medication to deal with there pain and how it makes them out of it and stuff and how that they take pills to cover up symptums

but its just a matter of how you look at it

i really love that song tho
