This all stems out of a rejection of science stemming from the anti-intellectualism indoctrinated into people.
If they used there intellect to read about and truly try to understand how science determines truth and how that creates a body of truth that evolves over time for the purpose of understanding and knowing what's in the world, how it works and how it got there, they'd know that people at the time the bible was written didn't have access to the knowledge about how old the earth is among many many other things like we do now.
This also includes the reason why people reject evolution.
They are indoctrinated to not believe in science because that would make them harder to manipulate, exploit and control for power and wealth
The reason for this is intellectual curiosity leads to investigation of whats true, science is created as a way to empirically determine whats true, a body of truth equals knowledge, the attempt to truly understand that knowledge leads to understanding, and understanding leads to wisedom. And if people got wiser then they wouldn't let themselves be used like they are right now and the ability of the leaders to manipulate, exploit, and control there followers would end, leading to them losing there power and wealth.

The fossil record is based on carbon-dating, a concept and practice that has recently come into question with respect to veracity and reliability.
That being said, the earth is VERY old, beyond what any man can accurately describe or calculate, regardless of their training or referential material. That does not supplant the existence of God.
Where the foolish speak, you will hear them speak of themselves, the brilliance of science that has yet to explain all that is left to be explained, the miracles of man's work, painted on a canvas placed before him by his Maker, the design and architecture of a planet, a galaxy, a universe that is beyond man's mortal comprehension but a substance of a significance none can truly appreciate or fathom.
The utterance of one person or another can never negate the existence, the omnipotence and ubiquity of God. Mankind can only hope to understand what it can given the tools and will at our disposal, but the greater Creation can only be credited to or understood by the Creator.
So our assumption or estimate is based on the assumptions and estimates of mankind, whether religious or scientific. Neither can measure nor fully comprehend the wonder of life, a gift that is God's and God's alone.
I would urge each soul, who are individually and collectively indebted to God for their existence and knowledge and ability, to search for themselves what evidence and directive their Maker has left for them to discover, and to not mistake man's ignorance for God's disappearance. God is alive and well, in you, me and everyone else you can think of.

Im a republican and by defination a deist.
I believe there is a god, but not the biblical, since I also know the bible to be partially inaccurate & untrue.
Im republican because being a democrat means secreting support bigotry like demos did till the 60's.
Btw, the majority of republicans are not biblethumping religious.
While the majority of demos are left wing..
Most republicans know the earth is defintely older than 6000.
Shoot u can even use the bible itself to contradict that.
Flood itself (if it really happend, had to be before 12000 years ago).

Sure there are. They are the christians who understand the meaning jesus was trying to get across. They read and think about what he taught instead of listening to the televangelists. Love thy neighbor, turn the other cheek, etc... Jesus taught pacifism. It's ok with me if they believe what they believe, in fact the constitution guarantees it and I will defend them unless they start forcing their beliefs on me. Too bad the conservative majority has turned it on it's head for political purposes. Does it bother me when they disregard all the hard work the scientists have done to better understand the world? Not at all, as long as they keep it to themselves.

You have been fed a load of dung. We all have a pretty good idea of how old the planet is. What does that have to do with politics or Ann coulter? Maybe in your world you can see the connection but it sounds like nonsense and ranting to me.

I would imagain there are a small number of liberals who belong to the christian fundamentalist and don't believe in evolution or that there has been 4 billion years since the big bang. Who knows anything is possible unless your a fundamentalist.
