I don't live in America and I only get Leno here, so I've never seen Letterman's show. I don't care much for Leno though, he tries to act all smart but when confronted with intelligent people he's shown for what he really is. I prefer Conan O'Brien, and I agree with the guy above me about Jon Stewart, he's the best host I can think of.

Letterman by a mile. While Leno has a few more "A-listers" and the power of NBC behind him to take the ratings, Letterman is funnier by far. Leno is just a boor with a bunch of bad one liners written for him. Conan's even better than Leno.

Leno has a better monologue , but his guests R gay. . Letterman has better guests , but the TOP 10 list is lame.

Neither is a particularly strong interviewer, but Letterman interacts better with his guests ... and the writing on Letterman is much stronger (count the dozens of Emmy nominations for his show versus Leno, who has none!).
But for late night laughs, Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert are my favorites.

Letterman is the funnier of the two
And the person that said neither could hold a candle to Carson...boy is that ever true. I miss that guy.
