I have a 98 Trans Am and with less than 80,000 miles the engine just went out. Shaft through the radiator. I have talked to 3 other people in my small town alone that have had the same problem with their Trans Ams/Firebirds/Camaros. Anybody else out there have the same problem with these engines.

All the cars were in the same year range 97-99. All had less that 80,000 miles and one only had 45K. Oil was change regularly.

Buy the car new?? Some people don't use best oil available, or change regularly! Somebody ahead of you may have set the problem up before you ever saw the car!

Use good oil change oil and filter often, (changing only one is like taking a bath and then putting on your old underwear!) Don't buy into that story that you only have to change every 5 or 10 thousand miles! Two to three thousand miles is better! Your expenses will be far less at the end of the game - without engine rebuild expense!

I don't understand. SHAFT through the radiator. CAM shaft? water pump shaft? WHAT!

I don't think you needed a new engine, maybe a new water pump and radiator.
