I should certainly hope not. If society rejects a person solely based upon their size then think of all the brilliant, entertaining people that would have been overlooked. Some that come to mind are: Winston Churchill, Orson Wells, Marlon Brando, Shelly Winters, Ben Franklin to name just a few. Some of our greatest wits, artists, statesmen, writers, teachers and scientists have had a few extra pounds yet were more than capable of making a lasting contribution to society. To judge a person based on appearance is a very shallow and immature action and those who do this will lose an opportunity to know some wonderful people.

Fat people are socially unacceptable as they are different! They are perceived as weak, lazy and stupid ~ they have no self-control and do nothing but eat all day! This is a load of crap!!! I have been very obese (over 20 stones) for most of my adult life. I am now of 'normal' size. I hated being big ~ I had no self-confidence and low self-esteem. People would stare in the street and often comment on my size (I was fat not deaf). This would only made me more self conscious and as I was so unhappy I often comfort ate. it was a vicious circle. I mearly existed. Now the weight has come off I find people treat me so differently. I no longer stand out in a crowd for the wrong reasons. I have taken holidays, been on fun fair rides and got myself a full-time job......I have got my life back. This is just a personal account of how I felt. many larger people are happy and confident and don't care! From experience I find that hard to believe.

What a strange question? Is the question then if someone is unattractive are they socially unacceptable?

Why on earth would someone fat, or thin, or ugly, or short, or really tall be socially unacceptable?

Fat is a size, thin is a size---so what? Those things say nothing of the inner value of the person. We must look beyond that and get to know someone.

Of course they are socially unaccepted, usually by ignorant people who seem to think they are smelly, lazy and want to eat all the food going, such a shame of how those ignoramuses perceive fat people, still ignorance is bliss and bad manners are what those type are good at, is it any wonder the kids of today think its cool to be anorexic with the way fat people are treated.

fat people are only socially unacceptable to shallow, body fascist people brainwashed by the media who can't think for themselves.

However, some fat people may also find themselves or other fat people socially unnaceptable due to low self worth and self esteem. But it's sad that if these fat people have a poor self image if its due to the media pressure.

Fat people - be free and be happy - if you are not happy with your size, try to lose weight to be healthy not becuse of peer pressure!
And if it's too difficut to lose weight it's not the end of the world - there's much worse things one could be than be fat. (Thin people just have other problems to woory about)

I think that is is unfortunate that society does not look upon obesity as the serious disease that it is. Trying to loose weight is very difficult to someone who's best friend is food, who's comforter is food and sometimes who's only companion is food. It is like an alcoholic being allowed three drinks a day, breakfast, lunch and dinner, just one drink no more! How easy would that be? I think that society should be more accepting of difference and more understanding of people who have a problem with food. It would be a very uninteresting world if we all ate salad and were a size 10!

Unfortunately, that is the way many people view fat people -- as socially unacceptable. Many people believe obese people to be gluttons and/or uncaring about their own appearances and/or without any self-control.

fat human beings occupy greater area, and can annoy human beings often times. you know... for occasion, you're in a convention and a fat guy unexpectedly sits beside you. isn't that uncomfortable? And secondly... properly, somewhat, fat human beings seem humorous. I additionally do no longer understand why they are being bullied and stuff. yet bear in strategies, being fat is widely used. Suuuuuper widely used.

what like when they take up 3 seats in the tube and then sweat all over the seat and when they get up, who ever's next gets to sit in the puddle?

No i wouldn't say that's true- although how else would mcdonalds survive? someobody's got to eat there!

there's fat- then there's morbidly obese. I don't think it's true of all slightly overweight people- but most defo so for the morbidly obese!

There is still Freedom of Thought in this country, and Freedom of Choice to Choose Your Opinion. So since we do have the Right to Choose, I'll choose to believe that fat is ugly and attractive.
