I know you can tour the Blue Mountain coffee plantation. Which particular plantation you are speaking of I am not sure. Jamaica is an incredibly lush island country. Fruit grows everywhere and you can eat it at will. Some local advice would be advisable for that because you don't know which is good. I will suggest you go to TripAdvisor.com and search for Runaway Bay (which sounds like the area you are looking for). Go to the forums section and you can ask this question there and will be more likely to get better answers.

If you get off the resort and drive down the street you can taste all the different fruits that the locals pick and sale. Really buy from them they need the money more than the big plantations. Try to do everything with the locals...spread the money to the people.

There is a farm/plantation in Jamaica called Friendship farm that allows you to do that. Ther is also the Appleton estate tour too that even allows you to fish in ponds they have. Check the Jamaica Tourist Board site, there are alot of places and things to do. Catch up on the patois too before you go, it's fun!

Thats true. Most cruise ships or resorts offer a Plantation Tour.

You can do that and get paid for it too around here. Ask your local farmer for a job.
