You'd think with the divine inspiration Christian musicians have, the fruits of their labour would at least rival the quality of their secular counterparts. Granted this is all subjective, but surely there would be some crossover into the mainstream market if Christian music was actually any good. its all far too generic for my taste, or am i missing something?

Because it relates in theme and message that does not evoke feelings in you that are relative to your everyday life, which therefore does not compel you to think of things or persons or emotions that interest you in your everyday life, since Christianity is probably not a large portion, if at all, OF your life, so it does not "charge" you or "lift your mood" or "motivate you" in ways that it would someone who is a devout Christian who doesn't mind hearing the same theme over and over again. Plus, who wants to hear the same thing over and over again anyways? No matter WHAT the song or it's message?

Oh no man....you're missing something lol.

I'm not sure exactly how to answer this, cause there is a difference between Christian music/artists and WORSHIP music.

If you are not a Christian, you probably won't find worship music very interesting. Worship music has one purpose....praising God. That's it. It doesn't sound like things you'd hear on the radio. There are some worship groups (Desperation, David Crowder Band) that have a somewhat "radio" feel, but it's not gonna be exactly what you're looking for. Worship isn't meant to be a pop song. It's meant for God, and if you arn't singing it for God, you're not gonna enjoy it.

On the other hand.....there is "Christian Music" as you put it....that could be on the radio 100%.

Granted, I don't know your style of music, so I'm gonna try to give a wide variety.....Check out these bands....

Sanctus Real
Relient K
Pillar
Bleach
Blindside
Project 86
TobyMac
Norma Jean
Newsboys
Number One Gun
The Classic Crime
Switchfoot
FM Static
Falling Up
Thousand Foot Krutch
Family Force 5
The Wedding

There is rock, pop, hardcore.....all mixed in there.

Let me know what you think!

You must not be listening to the right Christian music. There are many Christian musicians that have crossed over to mainstream music. Jars of clay has been in and out of mainstream music for almost 20 years, and many of the newer artists have been on regular radio with many different songs.

You must be missing something- take bands like creed whose basis is very christian, but are not in ur face, so much so that you might not notice their message at all, but it is there! the song 'with arms wide open' is a clear message, but also very suttle. Also, i dont know where you live, but here in australia, there is a church called Hillsong who releases an album every year, and every year their album hits number 1 in the charts as soon as it is released, which is also a good indication of the impact on the mainstream market. hope this helps :)

Interpretation. Some Christian bands, such as As I Lay Dying and Underoath are actually pretty decent. A lot of their fans aren't even aware of the Christian roots in their music.

worship music isn't always lame... last week my church youth group had so much fun during worship, we blew a fuse!!!

ever heard superchic[k], barlowgirl, or kutless? they are christian rock... and they really do rock (no pun intended)...

david*crowder band is a christian rock/worship group (yes it is possible...)

listen to a few songs by the above artists... they have some really good stuff...

just stop calling christian music lame... and stop saying all christian music=worship music!!! there is a difference (For example, the group Kutless has been recording for several years and just cut their first actual worship single this past year! the song is called "Strong Tower" btw...)

No, you aren't missing anything. It is lame because it has to appeal to the masses. In reality, the masses are lame, hence the music follows suit.

It really does suck.
Watch South Park where Cartman figures out that if you take "baby" out of all of the pop songs, and replaces it with "jesus", all of a sudden its a religious song. Good stuff.

first of all i think you are missing alot because gospel music is the best music to listen to but first you must feel it from the heart and listen to real gospel music and ask the Good Lord to open up your understanding try going to a musical store & just try out different music something that might sooth your heart ears but just give it a try i sure you have nothing to loose but remember listening to that up side down gospel it wont help

Because (1) a good bit of it is very old and hard to sing; and (2) a lot of it was composed by clergymen, who were second-raters at best.

Try listening to Thomas Tallis. He is not lame -and he was born in 1510.
