Every American soldier knows that the total, awesome military machine is controlled by civilians. Since today's ruling class has almost no military experience, it is incredibly stupid about military possibilities and limitations.
Before the 1960's, almost every member of congress had served or had children/grandchildren who had served during hostilities.
Today, it is less than 20%. But they're in charge, and make the decisions. Must be - otherwise we'd be just another banana republic.

oh, don't get hung up on the God thing. That God wanted us to invade Iraq was only one of hundreds of reasons given. We also got to depose Sadaam because he was evil, kill a bunch of civilians, make our allies mad at us, reallocate about a half a trillion dollars of our children and grandchildrens money to Bush's friends, destabilize the middle east, drive oil prices up, and create an environment in which Americans would tolerate torture, rendition, illegal military tribunals, illegal wiretapping, illegal gathering of phone records, and all manner of other things.

Surely there is one thing in there for you to rally around. Just find that one thing and block out the rest.

It's just words. Bush blames everything on others and doesn't take responsibility himself. Even if it means referring to GOD, which I seriously doubt told him to invade another country on false pretenses. Bush preaches that he looks to GOD for guidance, but look at his record and you tell me how many godly things he has done in his administration. NONE! It's just like everything else he does. He is all talk, no action.

I strongly believe that Bush used that argument for one reason, and one alone..

To try to appease the evangelicals that he was losing support with.

Why does Mr. Bush do anything related to religion when the man himself doesn't even attend church?? (exception: photo-op occassions)

Answer: Appease the evangelical right.
