Why did we overthrow the taliban in afghanistan when we were working with them before? Why did we wait till they would not let us put an oil pipeline through their country before calling them terrorists? Why did we install the former head of unical as their president, Karzai? Is that guy even afghani?

Wow, um, what can i say. Do you know anything about history? We never worked with the Taliban, but rather Osama Bin Laden in the Cold War. When Afghanistan had this problem, Afghanistan asked us for help and we did so, but Osama protested to the Afghanistan government to let him take them out. The government said no. From then on, Osama was against the US and Afghanistan, and eventually got control of it through his new organization, known as the Taliban.

The official story is to bring down a regime that supported Al Quida. You remember that Bush said he no longer cared about going after Osama a couple of years ago and that he doesn't worry about him anymore. Now though, with an election coming up Bush is mentioning him all the time again to scare the American people. Look for something to happen just before the election so George can scare all the people again.

You do remember 9/11 don't you? Afghanistan was Osama Bin Laden's base of operations. The Taliban gave him free reign, and he was turning the country into one giant terrorist training camp.
After 9/11, and after Bin Laden claimed responsibility, the U.S. demanded that Bin Laden be turned over to us, and we set a deadline. The Taliban refused, so after the deadline passed, we removed them from power.
EDIT: At one time we helped the Taliban and other groups oppose the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan. I believe the President who began that was named CARTER, but feel free to check for yourself. Once they consolidated power and established theocracy, rejecting all contact with the West, we had nothing to do with them. My point was and is, after 9/11 that past no longer mattered. They were stupid enough to harbor our enemy, and they paid the price.

You must have been in a coma for several years. Go to the library and look up: Newspaper Archives.
Glad you finally came out of your coma. But you are several years behind everyone else.

9/11 is the reason we went into Afghanistan. They were a hot bed of terrorist training camps and human rights were right out the window.
