They start out like mild cramps. Then get more painful. Real contractions get longer, stronger and closer together.

There is no one answer - some women feel contractions more in their back, some don't even notice. If you think you are having contractions, your abdominal muscles should be hard during them. This you can feel with your hand -- if you think you are having a contraction, touch your stomach -- if it is hard, and then relaxes when you think the contraction is over, it's most probably contractions. Mine were different with all three of my kids!

They feel like your body is attacking you and you have no way to stop it. If you are a man and I were to describe it to you ; I would say the closest you could ever come to understanding is to imagine that at the beginning of a contraction your wife would clamp down on your testicle area and squeeze and let up in pressure only as the pain starts to subside.

ok, i'll walk you through this... pull your bottom lip out just a little bit, then pull it out just a lil more, then....... stretch it over your head :P actually, i didn't think they felt that bad, just about 20 times worse than a period cramp.
